Safety tips
Most people on Zogelo just want a good conversation. These habits protect you from the few who don’t.
Keep personal details private
- Don’t share your full name, phone number, address, school, workplace or social media accounts.
- Check what’s visible behind you on camera: mail, ID cards, windows with street views, or photos.
- Never share passwords, OTPs, bank, UPI or card details with anyone you meet in a chat. Zogelo staff will never ask for them.
Assume you could be recorded
Recording other people is against our rules, but we can’t stop someone from pointing another device at their screen. Never do anything on camera you wouldn’t want shared.
Watch for scams and blackmail
- Be wary of anyone who quickly turns the chat sexual, asks you to move to another app, or asks for money, gifts or crypto.
- Sextortion is when someone records an intimate moment and threatens to share it unless you pay. If this happens: don’t pay, stop replying, save evidence (usernames, screenshots, payment requests), and report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call the national cybercrime helpline 1930.
You’re always in control
- Press Next (or Esc) to leave any chat instantly. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.
- Use Report for nudity, harassment, hate, scams, fake genders, or anyone who looks under 18. Reports are confidential.
- Turn your camera or microphone off at any time using the buttons under the video.
- Block anyone you never want to see again, from the Report window or your Friends list. Blocked people are never matched with you and can’t call or add you.
- Only accept friend requests from people you’re comfortable talking to again. Friends can see when you’re online and video call you.
Meeting in person
We don’t recommend meeting people from Zogelo offline. If you choose to, meet in a busy public place, tell a friend where you’ll be, and arrange your own transport.
If you’re in danger or struggling
In an emergency in India, call 112. For cybercrime, call 1930. If you’re feeling low or overwhelmed, the government’s Tele-MANAS mental health helpline is free and available 24/7 at 14416.
